The Devil Finds Work: James Baldwin on Film

The Devil Finds Work: James Baldwin on Film  — A carefully curated new film program reminds us of Baldwin’s genius at film and literary criticism.

tk: James Baldwin is my all-time favorite writer, my all-time favorite thinker. There’s something spiritual or magical for me in listening to or reading his words. It’s like Baldwin has glimpsed into my heart and brain, found a mass of ineffable thoughts and emotions there, and translated them into words without my knowing it. And suddenly, while I’m reading The Fire Next Time or Giovanni’s Room or Another Country or watching an interview with him, there they are — there they have been, my jumbled, wordless thoughts and feelings, on a page, or coming out of Baldwin’s mouth.

I do own the film The Price of the Ticket. If you’d like to borrow it, let me know.
